Past Recipients of a WS Graduate Certificate


2002-2003

Zoe Peterson completed her clclinical internship at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center (2005), which was the final step for her PhD in Psychology. She then accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. In 2007 Zoe became an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, teaching gender/sex-related courses.

Carey Scheerer began graduate work (2005) in Anthropology at the University of Colorado.

Sharon Sullivan is currently an A Assistant Professor in Theatre at Washburn University, teaching Theatre and Women's Studies. Sullivan's Final WS 898 Paper: "Refusing Stereotypes".

Jennifer Thibodeaux is currently an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and teaches courses in Medieval, Ancient, and Early Modern European History, and in Gender and Women's History.

Heather Van Mullem is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID.

2003-2004

Roksana Alavi is an assistant prorofessor in the Philosophy and History Department at South Texas College (2005-present). Alavi's Final WS 898 Paper: "Female Genital Mutilation and Cosmetic Surgery"

Carly Hayden Foster received her PhD in Political Science (2005, KU) and is now assistant professor in Political Science at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (2006-present).

Dawn Gale

Shana Hughes received her PhD in Applied Anthropology (KU, 2006),"The Affect of Gender and Culture on the Experience of Migrant Farmworkers in the United States"; she is now Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida (2006-present). Hughes' Final WS 898 Paper: "The Moment of Feminine Invention".

Tamela Ice received her PhD in Philosophy (KU, 2007),"The Paradox of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Sexual Politics: Voluntary Agreement, Psychological Oppression, and the Dehumanization of Woman." She is now Assistant Professor, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Kansas City Kansas Community College (2007-present). Ice's Final WS 898 Paper: "Sexual Politics in Rousseau, Flaubert, and Sand".

Chelsea D. Schlievert was in the Photography Department, Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (2007-2008), and is now Public Programs Coordinator, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2008-present). Schlievert's Final WS 898 Paper: "Nostalgic Coolness"; bibliography.

2004-2005

Elizabeth M. Lagaron is currently working on her Ph.D. in English at the University of Kansas,"Jack Kerouac's vision of the 'Fellaheen'." Lagaron's Final WS 898 Paper: "Kerouac's Hazy Image of the Mexican"Fellaheen" in On The Road".

Jimmie Manning

Susan Reneau received her PhD in Psychology (2006, KU),"The Function of Unwanted Consensual Sexual Activity in Heterosexual Dating Relationships". She is a clinical psychologist at the VA Medical Center in Brimingham AL (2007- present). Reneau's Final WS 898 Paper: "Unwanted Consensual Sexual Activity in Heterosexual Dating Relationships".

2005-2006

Jane Irungu received her PhD in Educational Policy and Leadership, School of Education (KU, 2008) and is currently Associate Director of African and African American Studies. She is a Doctoral Student in Educational Policy and Leadership, School of Education, KU.

Christine Anderson received her doctorate in History (August 2008, KU),"(Per)Forming Female Politics: The Making of the 'Modern Woman' in London, 1890-1914." Dr. Anderson is currently a Lecturer in the Department of History and Department of Humanities & Western Civilization at KU for the 2008-09 academic year.

Jennifer Balke continues to work on her PhD dissertation in English, which explores pre- and post-modern representations of medieval virginity. In addition, She recently accepted and began a Communication Arts teaching position at Blue Valley High School in Stilwell, Kansas. Balke's Final WS 898 paper.

Anne Marie Morgan is a graduate student, working on her PhD in Philosophy.

2007-2008

Jason Barrett-Fox received his graduate certificate in Spring 2008 and his MA in English and American Studies; he currently is a PhD student in English.

Lindsey Feitz received her graduate certificate in Spring 2008 and is currently a PhD student in the Institute for Policy and Social Research.

Sohyun Lee received her graduate certificate in Summer 2008, and is currently a PhD student in Theatre and Film.
